FACES<\/strong> | Fundaci\u00f3n de Apoyo Comunitario y Social de Ecuador<\/em><\/h2>\n

Founded in 1991, Fundaci\u00f3n de Apoyo Comunitario y Social del Ecuador (FACES) is one of the largest microfinance institutions (NGO) in Ecuador<\/strong>, with the mission to contribute to the fight against poverty and unemployment in Ecuador by supporting microentrepreneurs with financial and technical resources. <\/p>\n

As of Dec.-20, FACES serves 19,652 micro-entrepreneurs via its 18 branches, while over 46% of the outstanding loans are related to agricultural activities.<\/strong> FACES started operations in the south of Ecuador and has recently expanded to the north.<\/p>\n

One of the major services offered by FACES are free financial, technical, social and health education workshops for clients and non-clients.<\/strong> Each year, the institution provides training to more than 4,000 people.<\/p>\n

FACES is developing with the Inter-American Development Bank a project of green agricultural loans<\/strong> with favorable conditions (lower interest rates) to producers with good environmental management systems in the north of Pichincha. The project aims at improving smallholders\u2019 income through the implementation of innovative measures<\/strong> to climate change adaptation, including financing (green credit), capacity building and technical assistance.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n

Huruma: Transforming Lives<\/em><\/h2>\n

Huruma\u2019s investment in FACES aims to transform the lives of smallholder farmers through the following theory of change:<\/p>\n

Input: EUR 3 MM<\/strong> focused on Agricultural financing + Technical Assistance to implement an agricultural risk management system.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n

\n

Output:<\/strong> Reach 61% of agricultural portfolio<\/strong>, reaching 20,900 farmers by 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Outcome:<\/strong> Increase 15.884 farmers\u2019 crop yields and 12.958 families\u2019 rural income<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
